Classic Moment of Meditation: Faith Comes By Hearing (Romans 10:17)

So faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the Word of Christ.
(Romans 10:17)

“Faith Comes By Hearing

St. Paul reiterates the necessity of hearing the Word of God to create, renew and strengthen faith in believers. Coming to church on a rare occasion or allowing your Bible to collect dust on the shelf doesn’t facilitate this reaction to faith. In fact, it can actually harm your faith. Think of it this way. How long has it been since you’ve been in worship or opened your Bible to hear God’s Word? Now, imagine that you’ve not eaten in that same amount of time. That’s the status of your soul. Starving. Wasting away from malnutrition. No nourishment likely to come either if past history is any indication. Why is that? Why is it that you don’t neglect the needs of your body but you neglect the needs of your soul?

Now, of course, I’m not talking to everyone today because there are still many people who come to worship regularly. Many people still read their Bible on a regular basis. These are they who have little fear with what is going on with the world and all the struggles going on. They know who is in charge of things and whose they are. They are regularly and richly blessed every time they hear the Word of God proclaimed either from their pastor’s lips or their own as they read it themselves.

The spiritual banquet for your soul is plentiful and always ripe and in season. Faith is begun by first hearing the Word of God. Faith is fed, nourished and strengthened through continual hearing of the Word of God. Feed your soul. Don’t let your faith waste away into spiritual death. There’s so much to live for. There’s so much still yet to learn that will make you grow beyond your wildest imagination. Come and see. The banquet is always prepared for you. Amen.
