Translation: 1 Maccabees 13:49-53

by PastorWilliams on September 5th, 2012

49 And those from the tower in Jerusalem were forbidden to go out and to come into the country to buy and to sell, and they became very hungry. And many out of them were destroyed by famine. 50 And they cried out to Simon to take the right hand, and he gave it to them. Then he cast them out from there and cleansed the tower from the pollution. 51 And they came into it on the twenty-third day of the second month of the one hundred seventy-first year with praise and palm branches, with harps and cymbals and stringed instruments, and with hymns and songs, because a great enemy had been crushed out of Israel. 52 And he decreed every year to go on that day with rejoicing. And the Temple mount was strengthened alongside the tower, and he and those with him dwelt there. 53 When Simon saw that his son John was a man, he placed him as a commander of all the mighty men. Then he dwelt in Gazara.
